Summer Fun Day 20 - Scented Sidewalk Paint Powder in the Rain

We love to make homemade sidewalk paint with cornstarch, food coloring and water.  Unsweetened Kool-Aid can replace the food coloring for scented paint (as noted on many websites and blogs).  And, on a rainy summer day you don't even need to add the water.  A couple of tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with a packet of unsweetened Kool-Aid, and you're ready...

...to poof...

...and pour out...

...wonderfully scented clouds of powdery paint...

...that settle in colorful clumps on the wet pavement...

...ready to be brushed...

...and blended...

...into flaming fireworks, or swirling seas of color...

...that might not qualify as high art, but...

...are sweet scented summer fun, all the same.

It's great to be a homeschooler.

It doesn't stain the sidewalk? That'd be my only worry. I'm sure I've asked you this before....

Tricia - No, it washes away just like sidewalk chalk. If you were really worried though, you could use smashed sidewalk chalk instead of the Kool-Aid mixture. It just wouldn't smell as good. But, it would blend nicely in the rain.

Summer rain? This is such a rare event here :) But painting with a sidewalk paint sounds like a great idea!
